Genes candidatos para mejorar la deposición de ácidos grasos en carne de bagre de canal (Ictalurus punctatus)

Resumen


El presente trabajo es una revisión sobre la importancia de los marcadores moleculares para el mejoramiento genético y del enfoque de genes candidatos asociados a la ruta de los ácidos grasos en la carne de bagre de canal (Ictalurus punctatus), como estrategia para mejorar la calidad de la carne de esta especie. Los genes candidatos son una herramienta que permite identificar aquellas variaciones asociadas a cambios puntuales directa o indirectamente implícitos en la ruta de ácidos grasos. Actualmente existe una demanda creciente en el mercado enfocada a la calidad de la carne de pescado con mayores cantidades de ácidos grasos insaturados benéficos a la salud humana, en comparación de los saturados que se desea disminuir en el consumo humano, sin embargo, en bagre de canal es un potencial poco explorado. La información aquí presentada incluye la integración de genes localizados en una red de interacciones de la ruta de ácidos grasos, y se analizaron aquellos que desde un punto de vista bioquímico tienen un potencial para el desarrollo eficiente en el mejoramiento genético asistido por marcadores moleculares. Puesto que esta estrategia mediante el uso de herramientas moleculares eficientiza el trabajo reduciendo costos de inversión, tiempo y espacio, e incrementa la productividad y rentabilidad de los programas de mejoramiento en el sector acuícola.
